Shared workstations

A ward workstation is shared, and your session on it is still your own. You sign in quickly, do your work, and hand over to the next person without losing the thread. This page describes how each session stays separate, how handover works, and how the record stays attributable.
The workstation is enrolled once
A shared machine is set up once by an administrator, and from then on it carries its own credential. That enrolment is what lets you sign in with a short PIN rather than a full passphrase each time.
You do the enrolment once per machine, not once per shift. After that, the workstation is ready for everyone whose role brings them to it.
Your session is your own
Two things prove a session is yours: the enrolled workstation, and your PIN. Together they open a session, the period between your sign-in and your sign-out when the platform knows you are present.
The workstation stands for the place, and your PIN stands for you. Because both are checked, a signed-in session ties to one person at one machine.
A PIN belongs to one person
Your PIN is yours. If a colleague needs to act, they sign in with their own PIN, and the machine opens their session in place of yours.
Handover in one step
When the next person signs in, your session ends in the same moment theirs begins. You sign out by walking away and letting them sign in, so a busy handover takes one step.
If you step away mid-task, the next nurse signs in and your session closes as theirs opens. Your unsaved work stays yours to finish when you sign back in, and their work records under their name.
The record stays attributable
Each entry names whoever was signed in at the moment it was made. So the record reads as a sequence of named actions, even when one screen serves a whole bay through the shift.
This is the reason quick sign-in matters. It makes signing in as yourself the quick path, so attribution holds without slowing care.
One screen, many named hands
A shared workstation produces one attributed account per person. The next sign-in supersedes the last, so a later reader sees exactly who acted and when.
Sign out from your phone
You can end a session from your own phone. If you left one open on another ward, sign it out remotely, and it closes within one request.
Your phone shows your live sessions, so you can see where you are signed in and close any you have finished with.
When you step away
A shared workstation locks itself after a short idle period, so an unattended screen returns to a locked state on its own. Sign back in with your PIN to pick up where you left off.
If the lock catches you mid-task, sign in again and your work is waiting. An administrator sets the idle period per site.
Common questions
Do I have to sign the last person out first?
Your sign-in supersedes theirs in the same step, so you start work without a separate sign-out for the person before you.
What if I forget to sign out?
The workstation locks on idle, and the next person's sign-in ends your session anyway. You can also close it from your phone.
Does a shared machine weaken the audit trail?
Each session ties to one PIN and one person, so the audit trail names the acting clinician for every entry.
