Procedure
Sign in on a shared workstation
Sign in to Pensieve on a workstation shared by a team, so the record shows your name and your session stays your own.
A ward often shares one workstation across a team. You sign in as yourself, so the record shows your name and your session stays your own.
Before you start
Your session is your signed-in time on the workstation, held under your name. Each entry you make while signed in carries your name and the moment you made it.
Sign in with your PIN
A PIN is the quick path on a shared screen. Follow these steps at the workstation.
- 1
Wake the workstation
Tap a key or touch the screen.
Expected: the sign-in panel appears with a list of names.
If you find the screen dark, check the workstation is powered and the monitor is on.
- 2
Choose your name
Select your name, or enter your staff identity in the Staff ID field.
Expected: the panel asks for your PIN.
If your name is absent from the list, type your staff identity by hand, or read Trouble signing in.
- 3
Enter your PIN
Type your
PINon the keypad and select Sign in.Expected: Pensieve checks your PIN and opens the Chamber.
If the PIN returns you to the panel, enter it again slowly. After several tries a PIN is held for a short while, so wait, then try once more.
- 4
Land in the Chamber
The Chamber is the staff desktop you land in. It opens as your working screen.
Expected: the dock shows the actions your role and relationships allow.
If the dock looks sparse, your access may sit with another role, so read Change what someone can do with your administrator.
Sign in with a passkey
Some workstations take a passkey or a hardware key in place of a PIN. Select your name, then tap your passkey or hold your hardware key to the reader. The Chamber opens the same way. If the reader shows no light, seat the key firmly, or fall back to your PIN.
Your own session
When you sign in, the person who used the screen before you is signed out. Your session begins fresh under your name.
Each note, order and result you record carries your name and the time. On a shared screen this keeps the record truthful about who acted.
Attribution holds under pressure
Several people use one ward screen through a shift. Each signs in as themselves, so the record shows who acted, entry by entry.
Stepping away
Sign out when you hand the screen to a colleague. Select your name in the top bar, then Sign out. The screen returns to the sign-in panel, ready for the next person.
If you step away without signing out, the session times out and locks the screen on its own.
Read how your session stays open and what a timeout does in Your session and timeout.
