What Pensieve is
A plain account of Pensieve as a hospital platform, the work it carries and the tools a hospital runs its clinical and business record on.
Pensieve is the platform a hospital runs on. It carries the clinical work of the ward and the business work of the back office on one governed record, and it presents that work to staff as a set of tools.
One governed platform
Hospital software is usually a patchwork. A record in one place, a laboratory system in another, a billing package beside them, and a spreadsheet for the rest. These parts share a patient loosely, and they share an audit trail rarely. Pensieve carries the same work on one governed platform, where every tool reads from and writes to the same record.
The platform rests on a few decisions that hold across every tool.
| The platform holds | What that means |
|---|---|
| One patient record | Every tool reads from and writes to the same record. Only the record tool holds a patient's clinical data, and the others ask it for what they need. |
| One authorisation decision | Every read and every write clears one decision, so a tool inherits the platform's access rules rather than inventing its own. |
| One audit entry | The audit entry is written in the same transaction as the change it describes, so a committed change carries its own trail. |
| One event log | Tools react to each other through events, so clinical work continues while back-office work follows. Placing an order proceeds while billing picks it up. |
| One controlled path | Every request enters and leaves by one path, and every link to an outside system leaves by one outbound path. |
The work it carries
The tools divide the work of the hospital between them. They fall into the record a hospital keeps for each patient, the model of the hospital and its access, and the tools that run the daily work.
The record and its spine
Gate, Atlas, Forge and Vault carry the record a hospital keeps for each patient, from the front desk to the ledger.
| Tool | The work it carries |
|---|---|
| Gate | Admissions and appointments. Registers patients, opens visits, and runs a visit from arrival to discharge. |
| Atlas | The patient record. Holds diagnoses, notes, documents, imaging, consent and the history of who acted. |
| Forge | Orders. Carries one clinical intent, a drug or a test or a scan, through fulfilment, scheduling and results. |
| Vault | Billing and revenue. Charges, tariffs, invoices, deposits, payments, payer splits and settlement. |
The hospital and its access
Nexus Manager models the hospital, Cirith Manager decides access, and orophin with Westron connect the hospital's own machines. Staff meet all of this through Chamber and the image study viewer.
| Tool | The work it carries |
|---|---|
| Nexus Manager | The hospital model. Organisations, sites, units, beds, services, assets, people, roles and rosters. |
| Cirith Manager | Access control. Decides, for each action, whether a person may take it, from role and relationship. |
| orophin | The on-site bridge. Speaks the protocols the hospital's machines speak and carries them over one outbound link. |
| Westron | The interop console. Configures and monitors the connections the bridge carries. |
| Chamber | The staff desktop. A shell with a dock of tools and pinnable widgets that staff sign in to. |
| image study viewer | Reads imaging studies in the browser, tied to the right patient and order. |
The working tools
The remaining tools run the daily work on top of the record.
| Tool | The work it carries |
|---|---|
| Cadence | Operational workflows. Runs a repeatable multi-step process and shows which step each case is on. |
| Quest | Scheduling and due tasks. Turns each ordered dose into a scheduled task and shows staff their due list. |
| Glyph | Forms. Staff design their own forms, fill them, and lock a completed form the moment it is finished. |
| Sentinel | Alerts. A searchable ledger of alerts, with rules, grouping, acknowledgement and escalation. |
| Raven | Communications. Sends a message over the right channel, respecting each person's consent and quiet hours. |
| Falcon | Analytics. Turns hospital activity into governed metrics and dashboards, with the lineage of every number. |
| Durin | The app and widget builder. Staff compose their own tools on the platform's governed data. |
One desktop
Staff sign in and land in Chamber, the staff desktop. It carries a persistent bar, a dock of full-screen tools, and widgets a person pins for a view they want at hand. The dock shows the tools a person's role and relationships allow, so the desktop is a projection of what that person may do.
The standards it speaks
Pensieve speaks the standards a hospital's systems and coders already use, so the platform meets them on their own terms.
| Standard | Where it applies |
|---|---|
| HL7 v2 and FHIR R4 | Messaging with other hospital systems. |
| DICOM | Imaging studies and the study viewer. |
| SNOMED CT, LOINC and ICD-11 | Clinical and diagnosis coding. |
| ABDM | National health-data exchange in India. |
| GST and IRDAI rules | Tax and insurance settlement. |
