Browser and workstation requirements

Lists the browsers, operating systems and hardware a Chamber workstation needs, with the version each requires and the display it expects.

Staff reach Pensieve through a current mainstream web browser on a managed workstation. There is no Pensieve application to install on a workstation. The staff desktop, the dock and the image study viewer all run in the browser, and the only Pensieve software that runs inside the hospital is the on-site bridge, which the hospital's IT team runs on a server, not on a clinician's machine.

Where each part runs

There is no client to roll out to workstations. Chamber, the staff desktop, runs in the browser; the dock runs inside Chamber; and the image study viewer reads studies in the same browser. The single piece of Pensieve software inside the hospital is orophin, the on-site bridge, and it runs on a server the hospital's IT team administers on the internal network.

PartWhere it runs
Chamber, the staff desktopIn the browser, on the workstation. Nothing is installed.
The dockIn the browser, inside Chamber.
image study viewerIn the browser, reading studies tied to the patient and order.
orophin, the on-site bridgeOn a server on the hospital's internal network, run by the hospital's IT team. Never on a clinician's workstation.

What a workstation needs

A workstation needs a current mainstream web browser, kept current, on a device the hospital manages. Traffic from the browser runs over TLS 1.2 or above, on a session that is authenticated and bound to the tenant on the server. The supported browser versions are published as a matrix in the Pensieve support centre, which is kept current as browsers release.

RequirementShape
BrowserA current mainstream web browser. The supported versions are listed in the support centre matrix, kept current.
TransportTLS 1.2 or above, from the browser to the Platform.
SessionAuthenticated, and bound to the tenant on the server.
DeviceA managed workstation the hospital administers.

The matrix, not a fixed version

This page does not pin a browser version, because the supported set moves as browsers release. The current list lives in the Pensieve support centre and is kept up to date. A workstation on a supported browser, kept current, meets the requirement.

Performance is a shared responsibility

Keeping the endpoint, the browser and the local network within the published minimum specification is the hospital's part of performance. Where a screen is slow, the endpoint or the network is the first place to look, ahead of the Platform. The network requirements set out the outbound path the browser and the bridge depend on.

Is there a Pensieve client to install on a workstation?

No. Chamber, the dock and the image study viewer all run in the browser. The only Pensieve software inside the hospital is the orophin bridge, which runs on a server, not on a workstation.

Which browsers are supported?

Use a current mainstream web browser, kept current. The exact supported versions are published as a matrix in the Pensieve support centre and kept up to date.

A screen is slow. Is that the Platform?

Often it is the endpoint or the local network. Check the workstation, the browser and the network against the published minimum specification first, then raise it through getting help.
