Set up a ward

Set up a ward in Nexus Manager, define its beds and place in the organisation, and make it ready to admit patients.

A ward is a unit within a site, and it holds the rooms and beds a patient stays in. You set one up here in Nexus Manager, define its beds and its place in the organisation, and make it ready to admit patients.

Where a ward sits

A ward is one kind of unit, the operational division that gathers the locations and staff working together. Inside it, a location is a room or a bay, and a bed is the smallest location, holding one patient at a time. The four nest inside each other, from the site down to a single bed.

Set up the ward

    Open the hospital model

    In Nexus Manager, open the site and choose its Units panel. The units already defined at the site appear. Confirm you are on the right site before you add anything.

    Create the ward

    Choose Add unit, give the ward a name, and set its kind to a ward. The ward appears under the site, ready to hold locations.

    Add the rooms and bays

    Add each location the ward holds, a room or a bay, with its name. The locations list under the ward, each one ready to hold beds.

    Add the beds

    Add the beds to each location. A bed holds one patient at a time, so give each its own label. Every new bed reads as available.

    Attach the services

    Set the services the ward provides, so an order routes to the ward that carries it out. Read how services receive orders and provide care.

    Open the ward for admissions

    Set the ward live. Its beds show as available, and Gate can place a patient in one. The ward is ready to admit.

How a bed reads

A bed moves through a small set of states as patients come and go. It waits available, is held for an incoming patient, holds a patient through a stay, and returns to use once the patient moves on and the bed is cleaned.

One patient to a bed

A bed holds one patient at a time through an inpatient stay. Moving a patient between beds updates the bed each one holds, while the stay itself stays one encounter.
