Procedure

Open a study

Open an imaging study in the stack viewer, move through the images, and read them alongside the order and the patient record.

You open an imaging study in the viewer, move through the image stack, and read it beside the order and the patient record. This page walks you through opening a study and reading it in context.

Before you begin

An imaging study attaches to the order that requested it. The image study viewer opens X-ray, CT and MRI studies in the browser, tied to the right patient and the right order.

Reachable from any tool

The viewer opens from wherever you are working and keeps the study bound to its patient and order. You keep it open while you read the record or write the report.

Open the study

  1. 1

Open the study from the order

Find the imaging order in Forge and open its study.

The viewer opens with the study tied to the patient and the order.

Confirm the patient by the label and the colour cue before you read.

  2. 2

    Move through the image stack

Step through the images with the scroll or the arrow controls.

Each image loads in turn as you move.

Use Zoom and Pan to read fine detail on any image.

  3. 3

    Measure where you need to

Select Measure and mark a distance or an angle on the image.

The measurement stays on the image while you read the rest of the stack.

  4. 4

Read it beside the order and the record

Keep the order and the patient record in Atlas open beside the study.

You see the request, the history and the images together.

If you need an earlier study, open it from the record and compare the two side by side.

Common questions

Which studies open in the viewer?

X-ray, CT and MRI studies attached to the imaging order. The viewer reads them in the browser.

Can I open a study from another tool?

Yes. The viewer is reachable from any tool and keeps the study tied to its patient and order.

Where do I write the report?

Record the report as a result against the imaging order. It releases to the record through the same second-person check as any result.

After you read

A radiology report is a result recorded against the imaging order, so the ordering clinician reads it on the record.

Record the report at record a result.
